Yard Work Finished....For Now.

Over the weekend, Chris and I tackled finishing up landscaping our front yard. The plan was to get up early Saturday and finish it up. Saturday turned into a day of laziness and nothing was accomplished. Luckily we had Sunday.

Before

We woke up early and with the help of my two lovely parents, we hit it hard and knocked it out in record time. I was originally thinking a Japanese theme, but that hindered us on what we could plant. We decided against that idea and went with some great plants for full sun from Calloways. The customer service there is excellent and their selection is wonderful! If your interested in the exact varieties we chose, let me know.

Chris did the digging and the rest of us did some clipping! By 2:00, Chris and I were laying down the mulch. What a transformation! We are pretty proud of the end result. Even picked up some decorative rock from the quarry today to add some interest.

After

This weather we're having couldn't be more perfect to get projects done outside. It's amazing that it's almost February. Scary to think what our summer will be like :/

Would love to hear about any outdoor projects your working on. Again, would have been easy to hire someone to do it for us, but for one thing, that costs money and secondly, it's such a sense of accomplishment when you do it yourself!!! Hopefully, what we did plant, stays alive.

Happy Planting!!!

Oh, how I love yard work!

Hope you all had a great weekend! Happy Martin Luther King Day!

This past weekend was a pretty productive weekend. Chris and I spent both days working in the yard. Not my favorite thing to do, but it was much needed.

Before- Help me!

We opted to do-it-ourselves and put the money towards other things. It can be so easy to take the easy route and  pay someone to do the dirty work. Believe me..we were really tempted to do just that. But we soon realized, you can't hire someone to do every project you need done, or you'll eventually go broke.

So, Chris and I dug along. He did the brunt of the digging up of previous plants, stumps, rocks, etc. on Saturday. On Sunday, we finished the job by laying down compost, pete moss, and garden soil. After a hard days work and a couple garden snakes later (2 to be exact and not tiny, ewwwww), we have a clean slate now and the front is ready for some pretty shrubbery.

After- All ready for new plants!

Can't wait to finish this project up hopefully in the next couple weeks. Looking to add some Japanese junipers and who knows what else. Definitely want to add a Buddha or Pagoda possibly. It will be very Zen like.

That's why I need your support!

There are a couple ways you can support me:

1. Find me at cozyhomeinteriors.blogspot.com and join me through google member. Just need an email address to join.

2. Find me on my facebook page, Cozy Home Interiors, and click 'Like'.

I hope you all visit my Facebook page and visit my blog soon. I really appreciate each of you taking the time to do this and supporting me! It means more than you know.

Happy 2012!! Stop and Smell the Roses!

It's a new year! Not hoping it to be better than the last because no matter what, our time here is a blessing. 2011 was a good year, but ready to take on 2012.

We made our way back to Dallas and to be around our family and friends again is great. Although, there are many times I think I don't see them enough. I'm hoping that will change for 2012.

We bought our first home which has been exciting, but also overwhelming. It's easy to get so consumed with making your home a home. You forget to stop and look around and see what you do have and what a blessing it is to have a home. I've taken some time to just enjoy my home these past couple months and be grateful for what we have.

And with a new year brings new year resolutions.

I feel it's a time for me to do some giving back. What's life without doing for others. One resolution is to get back volunteering. We are a society that is consumed with the latest and greatest whether it's fashion, technology, etc. I'm over it! Many people now have this sense of entitlement and it's really too bad. If people can bring it down and find that those "things" AREN'T going to make them BETTER, PRETTIER, RICHER, or SMARTER. It's time to stop obsessing about yourself or your house (i'm one to blame) and put some of  that energy into giving back and helping others. Pretty rewarding feeling at the end of the day. I'm ready to make it happen!

Another is to make more time to hang out with our friends and our family and make some new friends. Getting on Facebook isn't enough for me and I really hope I'm not the only out there that feels the this way. It's not fulfilling honestly. Most of the time it's upsetting. What ever happened to getting together with a friend for lunch or dinner or a simple phone call. We've got all the time in the world to run errands, but no time it feels like to see a friend. It's like we need to plan it 2 months in advance. Why is that?? I'm definitely willing to make more time if they are..

As for projects at home, I'm ready to dive into some. Things take time and making a home takes time. It doesn't happen overnight. Nor can I be overly consumed with our home like I have in the months past. There is more to life and that's living it and enjoying the moment.

I wish for your 2012, to be a happy one. Take the time to sit back and relax! Stop and smell the roses and to slow down just a bit. Your next day isn't a guarantee. Ask yourself...what's really important???

All the Best for 2012!!!
