Lea's Traditional Lilac Nursery

It's a new year and my how things have changed in our life! We added a new addition to the family, our little Lea, and she's been keeping us busy! Hope you all are enjoying the new year thus far. Hopefully staying warm and staying healthy. With so many cases of the flu out there, Lea and I have been staying close to home.

I wanted to finally share with you Lea's nursery pics. This room was once our guestroom that I recently transformed about a year ago. We ended up making our office duel purpose as the guest/office and it worked out well.

Working on her room was a labor of love and I'm so happy with the way everything turned out. Pretty excited as well that Project Nursery Readers' selected it as one of their favorites. They say the color lilac is on trend in girls' nurseries and they've been seeing a lot more of it. It's a great choice if you don't want to go pink, but still want to keep it feminine and sweet. If you do decide to go with a lilac or lavender, you might find it a little difficult to find much in that color out on the market, especially curtains. Be prepared to get creative.

For Lea's room, I envisioned a beautiful and sophisticated nursery fit for a princess. I went with a traditional feel throughout the nursery and played off the focus of the room, which is her canopy crib. I am in love with this piece. So dreamy. Another favorite piece is her bookcase unit. It's a piece I've had for years and my mom and I refurbished it with Anne Sloan's chalk paint in Duck Egg Blue. It's great for storage, displaying all her pretty things, and will be a piece she'll have for years to come. The piece that really brought the room together and tied it all in is her rug. I love how ultra feminine it is, and the fact that it can grow with her. I think that's key.

I had to get creative with a lot of the accessories and wall art. I had an art book and used the Monet pages for her artwork. I also reused and repainted some pieces I already had like the scroll iron piece above her changing table and the mirrors.  Etsy is a great resource to find pieces you can have custom made in your colors. The crochet blanket and also the flower pom poms I bought on Etsy. 

I had a really great time creating this space for Lea. It's important to have fun with the process, but definitely allow yourself plenty of time to get it finished. You don't want to rush through it. There were days I didn't feel like doing anything, months even, and time slips away quickly. Also, throw in a little unexpected. For me, I'm not at all into the "matchy matchy" stuff. I love to mix pieces and try new things that you wouldn't typically see. Step outside the box and you may be surprised at what you can create.

We love our little Lea ! Can't believe she's already 2 months.
