Let there be light~ Client's New Lamps

When I tell you it took months to find the right lamps for my client's master bedroom, it truly did. I searched high and low to find the perfect ones. Shopping online, shopping around town, let me tell you, not an easy job.

My clients have a beautiful Four Post Tommy Bahama Bed that I didn't want to distract from. It's massive and I knew the lamps they had were too small. I had my heart set on mercury glass lamps and you would think with the craze of mercury glass, I could find something that would work. Yeah..not so much. Restoration Hardware had some, but not the right shape. Pottery Barn has them, but not the right shape or shade.

Then the cloud lifted when I saw these on DecorPad. I knew these were the ones!

I loved the organic and natural feel of these. The finish was perfect, size was good, shape was simple and I knew these wouldn't fight with the bed.

Here is a snapshot of their new lamp. I did end up getting a new lamp shade at Restoration Hardware. The one shown above seemed a little too small and I wasn't crazy about the texture of the shade. Just didn't look as good as it could.

There isn't a huge difference which is good. I didn't want there to be. The shade fills the lamp out just a little more and I love the silk texture of the shade now versus before. I went with the bright white, size E in Silk.

Client loves these as do I! We ended up actually purchasing through Macy's and they were on sale at the time for $150.00 each. Great deal for great lamps!

It's a Match!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! Been working on some great projects, and have lots to share. Will have some good stuff in the following weeks.

I did want to share and do a quick post. I love when things come together. We spent months without a rug in front of the kitchen sink. We originally had a sisal rug we bought from Ikea in front of the sink. Sisal is great, but I wouldn't recommend one if it's going to be used in a high traffic area. Maybe some are better than others at getting stains out, but ours..not so much.

This is what is looked like three months later after much scrubbing. Sorry, it's been folded up in our garage and just snapped a quick pic to show you. Love that big spot in the middle. It drove me nuts and I finally had to remove it.

{See what I mean, not so pretty anymore}

Months passed and still no kitchen rug. I looked and looked every time I was out and about at Home Goods. Never anything worth while. Finally it was my day. I stopped into Home Goods and found a great looking rug. I didn't know if the size would work, but I was pretty certain the colors would work. When I got it home, it was perfect and what do you know..it matches "down to the t" with my dish towels.

Love that!! It was meant to be and totally worth the wait. Basically, the point I'm trying to make is wait!! Wait until you find something that hits you! Don't buy to buy. It's worth taking the time and finding something that you really love.

What do you think?? Much better improvement. It's even got the bright blues, turquoise, reds, etc. It couldn't be a better match and the perfect size. Meant to be!!

Heaven on Earth

I hope you're having a great week! It's been gorgeous weather in Dallas. I haven't even begun to think about decorating the house yet for fall. With the weather being so warm here, it doesn't quite get me in the mood just yet.

We spent last week visiting Chris's mom in California. It was a great trip and we were able to take a drive down the coast to Monterey and Big Sur. We've been dying to see that part of California and this time, we made it happen.

Simple words to explain the vista..Heaven on Earth. Seriously..when I picture Heaven and what I'll see, this is it.

Such beauty and it's in the state of California. You always think you have to travel far to see something like this, but not the case at all. Chris and I concluded that California is where we belong. There is something to be said about living in a place that is beautiful. I know it's super important to make the best out of life no matter where you live. I just love the idea of being connected to mountains and the ocean. You get the best of both worlds!

We stayed at a super quaint little place called Deetjen's in Big Sur. It was built in the late 30's off Highway 1. I absolutely loved every nook and cranny of this place. It was full of character and super unique. Not like any place I've ever been to. When we checked in we were told that they don't provide you with room keys. Seriously..crazy, but true. They've never had a problem in all the years they've been open. Everyone is so chill and laid back.

The rooms contained years and years of guests journal entries. People not only expressing how great they thought the place was, but more in depth personal entries. I loved reading these. People being so open and real.

The grounds were beautiful. We took a walk up the private drive and the view was unbelievable. To the left, we saw 15 foot waves with daring surfers, and a whale in the distance right off the coast. Such peacefulness and serenity on the mountain top. A memory made.

{So pretty}

{Thought this was cute}

{Amazing food, Eggs Benedict is a must}
We enjoyed the perfect weather and had dinner at Nepenthe right up the road from Deetjen's. Amazing views all around.

{The succulents grow like wildflowers out there}

{Loved this visual display }

The next morning we went for a hike along the ocean side at Andrew Molera State Park. I loved being able to hike along the ocean. Again, was picturesque and a perfect day for a walk.

{Sea Kelp..pretty stinky}

Arrived to Monterey Bay..Gas prices a little higher than what we're use to in Dallas. His mom set up a nice kayak excursion around the bay. We saw tons of sea lions barking up a storm and cute little sea otters. It was magical to be so close and see these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat. Although, the whiff of those sea lions I think was the most foul thing I've ever smelled in my life.

I've got these two great videos I want to share, but still need to figure out how to get them off my camera. New camera..got to love it. One video is of the surfers and the other is of several dolphins playing around in Monterey Bay. Will figure that out hopefully today at some point!

Thanks for stopping by! I would love to hear about your travels to  Big Sur. I absolutely loved it and can't wait to go back!

Have a great day!

Allison
